A very good evening! Thought I'd give you an update on what I've done so far in the line of work experience etc. Last summer I did a short spell in a nearby GP practice, with a variety of posts in there. Fortunately I managed to avoid manning the reception, so I spent most of the time with the head nurse there. Doing blood pressures and helping with the blood tests was surprisingly pleasant, even over a stretch of several hours. I mean, I never thought it'd be boring, but I wasn't expecting it to be as interesting as it was. Although the urine dipstick tests weren't quite as fun. What else was there? I went on a few visits with the consultant, out to a cottage hospital, which really showed the community aspect of the job, as well as sitting in with his clinics. Again, interesting and fun. There was also an antenatal clinic, and a couple of sessions with the healthcare assistant, in which I saw lots and was able to do all sorts of tests too. I wasn't expecting to be doing an ECG on a patient, or using an ultrasound sensor (I forget the exact purpose, believe it was something to do with examining a fracture). And now for the big one...wait for it...MEDLINK! An awesome and fascinating course, which was amazing (in case you hadn't noticed my opinion earlier). So very informative about...well, everything, every branch of medicine, universities, exams, and that bagel you had last Tuesday. I'd recommend it to anyone with an inclination to medicine. I am now armed with knowledge. Those who aren't can flee. In fact, it was what finally propelled me into starting this blog. I'd been thinking about keeping one for a while, but had never really gotten around to it. But no, it was a fantastic conference, and I'd definitely like to go to Medsim.
Very little science this post, but it'll be forthcoming. Oh, and for Christmas I got some awesome periodic table cufflinks. http://www.etsy.com/listing/62652514/chemistry-custom-periodic-table
Everyone starting their Chemistry AS should be issued with these.
Hey Joe, how's it going? Neglecting your blog? How were your AS modules and what topics were in them? I'm just rubbing it in your face that I don't actually have exams for another year and a bit, but when they come round they'll come down like a storm. Oh, I saw on fb the new guitar that you got and it looks awesome. I am envious; it looks so cool.
ReplyDeleteIt's going really very well, just had some work experience in the microbiology labs at the hospital. Yep, kind of neglected the blog recently, but I'm currently doing that research paper with someone from school, so been a bit preoccupied with that and music exams. Are you doing that, or has it gone the way of my blog? Haven't had any modules, the exams are all in the summer, just started revising. How were your lovely exams? Wonderful I presume? Also, watch the Muppets. Saw it saturday and I'm still INCREDIBLY HAPPY. It's so very awesome. And thank you for making actually remember about this blog, your one is irritatingly productive. And a very happy Tuesday to you!
ReplyDeleteHi Joe, I'm Sifut :) I went to Medlink as well! :) Your work experience sounds amazing! Hopefully I'll be able to get such a good placement as well! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes, it was pretty awesome, and I'm about to do some volunteering at the hospital too. Hope you get plenty of experience as well, it's so hard to get hold of :(. Are you doing a blog?
